Servers |
You May ask yourself: Do I need a Server?Servers are
computers that act as the central repository for applications, data, and other resources
in a network. Most of the time, servers are more powerful than your average desktop
computer because they must handle many simultaneous tasks. This is due to many people, or
users, connecting to them and processing information on them at the same time.
Servers are dedicated, running 24 hours a day, performing these tasks. They usually
do not get used for workstation (or desktop) purposes.
|
Some of the possibilities:
- Go paperless - eliminate paper clutter by scanning and storing
documents on a server
- Gain full control over your company's email and internet
- Safeguard your data and documents from an unexpected event (fire,
flood, erasure, hardware failure)
- Secure your data from unauthorized access
- Feel secure knowing your company's data is safe
- Redundancy - Server components can fail, and be replaced with no
downtime

There are many types of servers...
- File and Print servers - share files and manage printing
- Internet and Web servers - control your internet connection and serve web pages
- E-mail servers - provide and manage your e-mail system
- Database servers - process your database queries and applications
- Terminal servers - all or some of your staff may access
any computer resource or system regardless of location (e.g. users at a
satellite site able to use system at another)
- Many more - one physical server may perform most of the above
functions simultaneously
Please take a look as some of the services relating to servers we can offer you.
If you don't see it on the list, or just aren't sure, please give us a call! |

| Troubleshooting and Repair |
- Identify and Correct Hardware Problems - Is your server
failing? We can
find the problem and repair it.
- Storage Problems - Hard disk errors? Tape backup
problems? We can
help fix the problem and restore your data.
- Preventative Maintenance - There are many tools and regular maintenance
techniques you can apply to your servers to help prevent problems before they happen.
|
| Performance Tuning and
Recommendations |
- Operating System Tuning - There are many server operating system
configuration settings that affect performance.
- Hardware Upgrades - Upgrading server hardware is always an avenue to
higher performance.
- Statistics and Monitoring - Gathering statistics and monitoring your
servers can identify performance bottlenecks.
|
| Monitoring and Fault
Notification |
- Server Monitoring - Many tools are available today that allow you to
constantly monitor your servers which will allow you to head any problems off at the pass.
- Trouble Notification and Paging - Tools are also available that can
notify you of critical server failures. You can be notified by phone, pager, e-mail, etc.
- Logging and Auditing - These are important for tracking events,
including security issues.
|
| Patches, Updates, Service
Packs, Drivers, Etc. |
- Hardware Updates - Manufacturer updates to Firmware and other
components.
- Operating System Updates - Patches and Service Packs often correct
problems and improve performance.
- 3rd Party Updates - Almost all software requires updating.
- Automated Update Distribution - If you have many workstations that need
software updates, we can help distribute them from a server over the network.
|
| Fault Tolerance |
- Tape Backup Systems - Tape backups are a necessity. If anything
happens, you need to restore your data!
- Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) - If you lose power and your server
just shut down, they can be ruined. UPS's provide temporary power backup until the power
comes back on.
- Network Link Redundancy - Multiple network links are another redundancy
method. If there is a break for any reason, the backup link will kick in.
- Storage Redundancy Systems - There are several options. Mirroring,
RAID, etc. These techniques allow multiple hard drives to be redundant to each other.
- Mirrored (duplicate) Servers - In the event of a disaster where
an entire server is destroyed, another backup server at another location
will allow your business to continue.
|
| Much More |
- Software distribution - Do you have an application you want to install
on all of your desktops but don't want to visit them all? There are many software
distribution options to choose from.
- Documentation - We can document your server environment to help you
